Provider’s Statement of Service(s):
The FRESH START Program of Transylvania Regional Hospital provides outpatient behavioral health group services as well as psychiatric medication management for adult and senior individuals who have a diagnosable mental health condition. We have been providing this service since 2007. The program is a Medicare certified program. Conditions that are treated in the program include anxiety, depression, psychosis, bipolar disorder, dementia, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizoaffective disorder, etc. Fresh Start Program also treats individuals who suffer from mild to moderate dementia.
Fresh Start Program is for the individual who needs moderate to intensive outpatient behavioral health treatment, but does not need the acute treatment offered by an inpatient psychiatric facility. This treatment may be utilized to prevent inpatient treatment or as step-down treatment from an inpatient facility.
A free assessment is completed as part of the admission process. Admission is established based on medical necessity, level of care criteria, diagnoses, and the needs of the individual. The length of stay, frequency of treatment, and treatment strategies are individualized and based on the recommendations of the treatment team and ordered by the doctor.
Fresh Start Program treatment team consists of a psychiatrist, who serves as the Medical Director, a Licensed Professional Counselor, who provides group therapy, and the Program Director, who does outreach, referral development, and assessments. The Medical Director provides psychiatric evaluation, monitors medications and can adjust medications, as is medically necessary, while the individual is in the program. The program also provides discharge planning to enhance reintegration into the community upon discharge.
Treatment consists of 2 therapy groups (one hour each) divided by a 15-minute break, which meet between 9:30 AM and 11:45 AM. A third group geared toward cognition skills begins at 12:00 pm and lasts until 1:00 pm. The groups run daily Monday - Friday. We have also added 2 groups per day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Patients are seen monthly by the psychiatrist or as needed to monitor medications and to evaluate patient's response to treatment.
Transportation to the program is available on a case by case basis. Also availability is based on proximity to the hospital, and normally covers most of the Brevard and Hendersonville areas.
